Large Purple MUMS! Oh these mums are so pretty! The students loved them. Students worked hard today! First, we went out front to discuss how we hope to fix up the front of our school. It just needs a little TLC and it will be a pretty area. They did a great job removing the old plants and then replacing them with these beauties! Next, we cleaned up the area and added some pumpkins. Then we went to the garden, added soil to our bathtub and planted the plants we took from the front flower pots. We hope to turn this bathtub into our new fairy garden. Next, the students learned to harvest. We harvested spinach, different types of lettuce and then basil. We discussed how it’s important to keep harvesting so these plants keep producing. WE also talked about how you can use these items to make a great salad and how home grown vegetables taste so good. They should try them. Students watered our previously planted garden beds and the newly planted beds.
Students are also learning life skills. We have a lot of gloves and we try to keep them in good condition. At the end of garden club students must pick up all of the tools and put them back in their designated spot. Small hand shovels go in a bucket, scissors go in their caddy, baggies go back in the baggie bucket and back on the shelf. We teach the students how to fold the gloves in pairs like socks. These girls stayed back to help get the glove folding organized. So thankful for them!!! At the end of garden club we treat everyone to popsicles for their hard work! They earn it!
