4th and 5th Grade Afterschool Garden Club

February 14, 2023 – 4th and 5th Grade  

It’s afterschool Garden Club time again!  So fun!  Mini Greenhouses was the plan for today!  We accomplished that!  The 4th and 5th graders were great!  We used Light Warrior Seed Starter recommended by our local Wimberley Gardens for our mini greenhouses and then students were able to pick the seeds they wanted to grow.  Each garden club member also got to pick a few seed packets to take home to try out.  We have 2 kinds of kale and brussels sprouts that survived the freezing temps and are thriving.  We planted strawberries last week and they are doing well too.   Students helped get some tomato, broccoli and cauliflower seedlings in the ground and also planted some onions.  Then we went to check out our greenhouse.  We have our rainwater collection tank set up and our greenhouse almost has walls ready again.   We are getting projects crossed off our to do list.  Oh and right after the freeze, our peach trees started blooming!  They need that cold weather to produce!
